MOSCOW, Jan 21 (PRIME) – Russia produced 7.3 million tonnes of sugar from the beets harvested in 2019, a record high as of on Monday, the Sugar Producers Union said in a statement on Tuesday.
The union also said that 26 sugar plants continue to produce around 16,000 tonnes of sugar daily.
“As of today, (Russia) has stored over 50 million tonnes of sugar beet. Given the carryover sugar beet stocks at sugar plants and in the fields, six plants will continue working into February, compared with the five plants that worked as of the same date last year,” the statement read.
The Federal State Statistics Service said earlier that Russia produced 50.778 million tonnes of sugar beet in 2019.
